When you use the Service, we automatically collect certain information, including:

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With your agreement partner: If you create an agreement collaboratively, certain information is shared with the other party to the agreement as part of the document-building process.
  • With attorneys: If you opt for attorney review, we share your agreement and related information with the attorney you select. The attorney is bound by their own professional obligations regarding confidentiality.
  • With service providers: We share information with third-party providers who help us operate the Service (see Section 4 below).
  • For legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service. Each provider processes your data in accordance with their own privacy policies:

  • Clerk — Authentication and account management. Processes your name, email address, and login credentials.
  • Stripe — Payment processing. Processes your payment method, billing address, and transaction details. Clause does not store your full payment card information.
  • Google Analytics — Web analytics. Collects anonymized usage data, including pages visited, session duration, and device information.
  • PostHog — Product analytics. Collects usage data to help us understand how the Service is used and to improve the user experience.
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — AI-powered document generation. Your agreement inputs are processed by Anthropic’s AI models to generate legal documents. Anthropic does not use your data to train its models when accessed through the API.

5. AI Data Processing

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate legal documents. When you use the AI-assisted features, your inputs (including personal and financial information relevant to your agreement) are sent to our AI provider for processing. This data is used solely to generate your documents and is not used to train AI models.

We recommend that you do not include sensitive information beyond what is necessary for your agreement (such as Social Security numbers or government-issued identification numbers) unless specifically requested by the Service.

6. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication, and access controls.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We also retain information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
